| When they were young... |
Where do I even begin? There are so many ways in which you two are my heroes. I have always admired your kindness. Never have I heard anyone ever say or even tell a story about someone else that said something negative about either of you. You're loved by everyone because of your giant hearts and your immense capacities for love. You've always accepted people without judgment - regardless of their circumstances.
I probably don't have to mention how much I have appreciated your unconditional love and support throughout my life - or how you were always there for me when my parents couldn't be. My fondest memories from childhood include you - from Grandpa sharing half an apricot with me in the backyard, or sitting on the front porch with him at night, looking at the stars and talking about life - to sitting at the foot of Grandma's chair while she played with my hair and we watched baseball, or coming home from school everyday to some sort of treat that she had thoughtfully prepared for me.
Perhaps the thing that makes you two my heroes the most, however, is your love for each other. The fact that you two have stuck through 71 years of marriage to each other is inspiring to me, since the rest of the world seems to be content to let their marriages fail, or to give up on them. You've seen NO shortage of hard times, I know, and somehow you've managed to work through them all because of your selfless love for each other. I look at you and think - if I only I could somehow be that lucky! And it's obvious that the two of you have no desire to live without each other - ever. Isn't that true love at its truest?
