For some reason, despite my valiant attempts to find my Resolutions from last year, I can't seem to figure out what they were. I know I made a goal to attend the temple once a month, which I definitely accomplished and I probably made some sort of exercising goal that I was good about until around June...
So this year, my goals are a little different. I mentioned in a previous post that I was selecting a scripture to be my motto for 2012. Well, here it is:
Wait on the Lord: be of good courage,
and he shall strengthen thine heart:
wait, I say, on the Lord.
-Psalms 27:14
I chose this scripture for a number of reasons, the main reason being that this year, I want to learn how to have courage. I've spent too much of my life letting my fear keep me from doing important things, like applying for scholarships or jobs, saying how I feel when it really counts, letting go of things that I'm afraid to lose, taking risks or chances that could improve my life, etc. In 2012, I'm going to learn how to have more confidence in myself and my abilities. I'm going to tell people how I feel when it really matters to me, regardless of how I fear they may react. I'm not going to let fear of rejection or failure keep me from applying for new things. I'm not going to let fear of not having my someone else's approval have any weight in the choices that I make. I wont let fears cloud my judgement or diminish my faith any longer. I will learn how to have courage. I will learn to have no fear.
My other resolution is to read at least one fiction book (for fun) a month. Naturally I'm hoping that I will read multiples a month. I've been so busy the last couple of years for different reasons that I've neglected doing something that I absolutely love and consider to be an important part of my life: reading for enjoyment. Sure, I've read a lot of books, but they've been leadership or marketing books or maybe even a biography - but my real love is Fiction. This month, I've started with The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I'm a little nervous because I've heard it's amazing and then I've also heard that I might not enjoy it for some of it's more explicit content. We shall find out! I'm about 120 pages in and so far so good. The first few chapters were slow going, but I'm too a place where I'm interested now. Yay!
I hope you're all excited for what 2012 may bring. I know I sure am!
