Whoa Whoa Whoa... Ok, "30 Days of Truth" - BE more controversial?
But you know what, even though it makes me uncomfortable, I'll do it. This is my blog. I can say what I want. And if this turns into a rant... then I blame the "30 Days of Truth" program.
Let me start by saying that I know and am friends with a number of gay people. Yes, that's right, I said "friends". And I mean that. I believe that people, regardless of their race, gender, or sexual orientation, are people all the same and deserve to be treated thus. And I wont treat them any differently then I'd treat anyone else - because to me, they are just people. And being gay doesn't necessarily make someone a bad person.
However, though I accept gay people without judgment, I do not condone being gay. Just the same as I accept and do not judge those who have any other beliefs that are different than mine. I think to be gay is wrong. Not only morally, but just in general. It feels wrong to me. And by wrong, I mean unnatural. I also think it's gross. But I digress.
The prompt was about gay marriage. I felt it necessary to tell you the above background information before going into this. Since I believe that being gay is wrong, it should come as no surprise that I also believe that gay marriage is wrong. I STRONGLY believe that marriage should remain between one man and one woman - especially for the sake of any children that may be involved. If two gay people wish to be companions, that is their choice and I will not judge or treat them differently for it. But I will not support them getting married. Sure, everyone has the right to be married if they choose - as long as it's to a person of the opposite sex, the way marriage was designed to be.
I will say, however, that I have a BIG problem with the number of gay people who protest and demand that they stop being persecuted, but then turn around and persecute my religion for opposing them. Their approach, in many places, has been hateful. Yes, my religion teaches that homosexuality is wrong. However, it has never taught that we should persecute gay people. Instead it preaches love and tolerance. Some members of my faith don't understand that. I find it to be a shame, but it still doesn't change the stance of the church - which is love for ALL our fellow men. Regardless of belief or circumstance.
I do my best to live by that principle, and to also hold true to my own beliefs at the same time.
