Being Christlike...To Yourself?

Last Sunday we had a lesson on loving ourselves. The lesson, as a whole, was good. But something the teacher said really struck me and it's been on my mind ever since. She said, "You wouldn't walk up to a person and say 'You're ugly,' because that is not the Christlike thing to do. Likewise, you need to be Christlike to yourself."
I've thought a lot about that concept; being Christlike to myself. What does it mean? What does it entail? Personally, I think it means loving yourself unconditionally. It's forgiving yourself. It's lifting yourself up, ever so humbly, and never putting yourself down. You are not fat. You are not ugly. You are smart enough, good enough, and pretty enough. You are a child of God. You are blessed.
I am blessed.
I think it means giving yourself pep talks when needed: "You CAN do this!" (Or my personal favorite: "Gosh darnit, you are a dang good catch!")
It's serving yourself - knowing your limits and getting help when you need it. It's giving yourself some "alone time" and it's praying for yourself. Praying for guidance, help, courage, faith, self-improvement, etc. Even when you don't feel like you deserve to be prayed for.
That's my New Year's Resolution (be it 9 days late...): To be Christlike to myself.

Out of all the posted blog thoughts I've read, I like this one the best. It's such a great concept and so many church members (including me) don't even recognize it. Remember Christ said: "Love thy neighbor as thyself." How can you ever truly love your neighbor if you don't love yourself first?
